Why The Majority of Resinous Floors Fail

Resinous manufacturers will claim 90% fail due to installation.
Resinous contractors will claim 90% fail due to materials.
They’re both right, but Techniquex is in the 10% that don’t fail.

Top reasons floors fail

  • Improper preparation
  • Benzyl alcohol in the epoxy primer
  • The experience and skillset of the crew

Top reasons ours don’t:

  • Mechanically prep all surfaces
  • Never include benzyl alcohol in our primer
  • Average superintendent tenure is 19 years

Concrete Prep

There are many different means to prepare concrete. The only acceptable prep is shot blasting or diamond grinding with industrial machines equipped with large HEPA filter vacuums to remove the fines generated from grinding. This will remove the unsound concrete and give a perfectly profiled surface of CSP 3 or greater to bond the resinous flooring to.

Moisture Control

There are many consultants in the moisture control arena. While they disagree on many things, the one constant is that moisture is a snapshot in time and is subject to change before and after the flooring is installed. With this knowledge it is irresponsible to ever install a flooring system without moisture control. If Techniquex is specified, all DiamondStone systems include unlimited moisture control.

Benzyl Alcohol

Benzyl alcohol is a solvent used in almost all epoxy formulations. Benzyl alcohol is water soluble, meaning it dissolves from water. If moisture elevates the benzyl alcohol dissolves and releases into the concrete, thereby contaminating the concrete, which in turn causes future floors to fail. Moisture failures account for the majority of resinous floor failures. Large manufacturers manage this liability through thee terms and conditions which mitigate all risk, leaving the owner or general contractor exposed to long term liability as moisture levels are subject to change.

AMPP QP8 and QS1 Certifications

Techniquex mechanically preps all substrates prior to applying resinous flooring. Techniquex installs unlimited moisture control built into our primers. We use benzyl alcohol free primers to ensure the potential for moisture failure is eliminated. Finally, Techniquex is QP8 and QS1 certified which is the highest level of certification available in the resinous industry.

Certificate awarded to Techniquex, Inc. for meeting AMPP QP 8 requirements for installation of polymer coatings and surfacings on concrete, valid March 31, 2025 – March 31, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Techniquex?

Techniquex has installed over 200,000,000 square feet of flooring. We offer a seamless experience, attaining the highest quality resinous flooring on the market today, while meeting the most demanding schedules, and have been the obvious choice for more than 40 years. We are vertically integrated which allows us to deliver outstanding quality while maintaing competitive pricing. We are not the biggest, but we are certainly the best!

How long do resinous and epoxy floors last?

This is dependent on the quality of the materials and contractor, along with the suitability of the system and the housekeeping practices of the customer. We have floors that still look aesthetically pleasing that are 30 years. We have also witnessed a client destroy there floor in less than a year. We will set you up with an easy to follow cleaning program that will maximize the life of your floor while enhancing your facility.

Does Techniquex subcontract its installations?

No, we do not subcontract our installations. Techniquex installations are performed by our W2 employees. While subcontracting the installation seems attractive, it is impossible to maintain consistent quality. We don’t have, company crews, partners, team members or any of the phrases that manufacturers use to dupe you into thinking your dealing with the contractor.

What kind of a warranty do I get with my flooring system?

Warranties range from 1-10 years depending on the system chosen.

How do I determine the best flooring system for my needs?

There are many nuances to resinous flooring, depending on the environment, current conditions, time frame for installation etc. A Techniquex representative would be happy to help specify the right floor for your conditions. Info@techniquex.com will connect you with a flooring expert.

Are DiamondStone floors slip resistant, waterproof, and anti-static?

Yes all of Techniquex floors are slip resistant unless you opt for no slip resistance. The desired slip resistance can be varied within the same system, to meet the demands of different environments while keep a similar look and feel.

Waterproof membrane can be added to all systems that are above grade with addition of one of DiamondStones membranes.

Standard epoxies are not anti-static, however Techniquex offers a complete line of epoxy and urethane, ESD Dissipative and ESD Conductive systems to meet your process needs. Both lines are available in Nano Technology, which is the most advanced static control available.

How long does the resinous flooring installation process take and will I have to shut down operations during the installation?

All things are subjective to conditions, but we have been known to do an entire stadium concourses in 18 days. If its possible, Techniquex can pull it of, all while delivering absolute quality.

A system and schedule can be designed to keep your facility in production.

Are Techniquex products compliant with California Department of Public Health 01350 and why is a QP8 Certification significant?

01350 is the testing and evaluation of the VOC content of a product to ensure it has acceptable limits. All DiamondStone products are compliant.

QP8 Certification is the highest certification available for resinous flooring contractors. It is a process driven approach with checks and balances to ensure procedures are followed and a paper trail is completed.
